Tuesday after my big interview, I ventured up to the roof of my house. I wish I could say it was to capture the beauty of God’s creation and reflect on the goodness of our Creator. But I went on the roof to clean out the gutters and get some clumps of pine needles off the roof.
The pitch of the roof is a little steeper than I thought. On the house I grew up in, you could just walk along the edge with a leaf blower and clean the gutters. Not so on my house now. I creeped along the edge of the roof and very carefully cleaned the gutters by hand. Every move felt like I might fall off. I figured if I started to slip that I would just jump and hope for the best.
But I prayed for safety and had to just trust that I wouldn’t fall. And for the places that felt a little too dangerous, I just left the gutters for another day.
I’m kind of in the same place with the potential job I interviewed for. Honestly, if I get the job it will be 100% because God wanted me to have it. The other candidate seems to have a lot of experience.
But I’m trusting God and trying not to fall off the roof. If I get the job I will be ecstatic (I will find out Saturday). If I don’t then I will trust that was best for the organization and for myself.
The edge is not necessarily a fun place to be. You don’t control all the variables. But it is exciting too.
Milo (newest addition to the blogroll by the way) left a comment wanting to know all the details from Tuesday, so here goes. Milo asked, “how did it go? what did you wear? did he/she make you feel comfortable? did you tank? did you go early? did you blow them away? did youget to nervous to show up? did you BLOG about your experience?”
My answer: It went well. I interviewed for 2.5 hours and then went to lunch with the staff. I wore a gray suit (channeling Matlock). I was very comfortable–they let me use the bathroom before the interview started and then gave me coffee. I hope I didn’t tank, but I definitely thought of some better answers to the questions later in the day. I did go early. I blew them away with my stunning good looks [grin]. I did not get too nervous. And I just blogged about the experience.
Thanks for asking, Milo. And Milo has done a re-design of the Ridgeview Church website. I’m not sure when he did it so this may be old news, but I just saw it today. Looks great.

Rhett your dashing good looks stun me all the time! Im sure the Matlock suit helped a great deal as well. Good luck bud.
